{"id":151,"date":"2009-09-06T18:46:07","date_gmt":"2009-09-07T00:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/?p=151"},"modified":"2009-09-06T18:46:07","modified_gmt":"2009-09-07T00:46:07","slug":"nearly-a-yeeear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/nearly-a-yeeear\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly a Y(Eee)ar!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been nearly a year since I first cracked open the case of my <a href=\"http:\/\/eeepc.asus.com\/global\/product701sd.html?n=0\">Asus Eee 701SD<\/a>.\u00a0 At the time, the netbook was probably a middle-of-the-road option, as far as the Eee line goes.\u00a0 I have used it as my main computer, running <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubuntu.com\/\">Ubuntu Linux<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been pretty tough on that computer.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve accidentally dropped it multiple times.\u00a0 I rarely turned it off, always running multiple <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/firefox\/personal.html\">Firefox<\/a> windows with way too many tabs active (just ask anyone who&#8217;s looked at my desktop recently).\u00a0 It&#8217;s kept up pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, however, I&#8217;ve been waiting&#8230; and waiting for my windows to respond and the wireless network to reconnect.\u00a0 And there has been a problem with the power cord connecting to the battery.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a bit of a drag.\u00a0 And I realized that I&#8217;m expecting too much from that sweet little machine.\u00a0 So I invested in a new netbook.\u00a0 This one&#8217;s a little larger and has incredible improvements in hardware (it&#8217;s an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acer.us\/showrooms\/aspireone\/\">Acer Aspire One<\/a>).\u00a0 I would have loved to get a newer Eee, since the new ones have improved so much.\u00a0 They even have one that <a href=\"http:\/\/eeepc.asus.com\/global\/productt91.html?n=0\">has a touch screen and converts into a tablet PC<\/a>.\u00a0 The new Eee&#8217;s have bigger hard drives (or solid-state drives), more memory, better screens, etc.\u00a0 But they are difficult to find in local stores.\u00a0 Between Best Buy and Target, there are a few models available for immediate purchase, but most models need to be ordered.\u00a0 So, when looking for a product for immediate acquisition, I was forced to choose another brand (not that I don&#8217;t like Acer &#8211; they&#8217;re awesome, too!).<\/p>\n<p>So after nearly a year of use, I have figured out where the Eee 701SD fits into my life.\u00a0 It&#8217;s great as a secondary PC that can be easily transported and\u00a0 connected.\u00a0 As a primary computer, however, it doesn&#8217;t quite make the grade.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sad not to use it all the time now, but it&#8217;s cute little screen will accompany me often while on the go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been nearly a year since I first cracked open the case of my Asus Eee 701SD.\u00a0 At the time, the netbook was probably a middle-of-the-road option, as far as the Eee line goes.\u00a0 I have used it as my main computer, running Ubuntu Linux.
