{"id":749,"date":"2009-02-07T12:56:11","date_gmt":"2009-02-07T18:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/?p=119"},"modified":"2009-02-07T12:56:11","modified_gmt":"2009-02-07T18:56:11","slug":"its-been-too-long","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/its-been-too-long\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s been too long &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the last post, I believe it&#8217;s been cold nearly every day.\u00a0 There were no tornadoes in Wisconsin this January, thankfully.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve learned to knit.<\/p>\n<p>I never knew just how fun knitting could be.\u00a0 I actually knit most (if not all) of the presents I gave away for christmas this year.\u00a0 I knit an\u00a0 iPod pouch for my sister and brother-in-law.\u00a0 I knit shower soap holders that can double as washcloths for my sister and mother-in-law.\u00a0 I knit some dishcloths for my mother-in-law.\u00a0 And I used some yarn to decorate the outside of a candleholder that contained a flameless candle for my sister to use in her dorm room.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the year, I took a break and didn&#8217;t knit anything for a while.\u00a0 My next project was the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/not-so-bulky-golden-compass-hood\"> Not-So-Bulky Golden Compass Hood<\/a> by Diane Serviss that can be found here: <a href=\"http:\/\/earthlyfae.blogspot.com\/2008\/03\/winter-hangs-on-just-like-jilted-love.html\">http:\/\/earthlyfae.blogspot.com\/2008\/03\/winter-hangs-on-just-like-jilted-love.html<\/a>.\u00a0 I used a different kind of yarn, but it did the trick.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/hood.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-120 aligncenter\" title=\"My Version of the hood\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/hood-150x150.jpg?resize=150%2C150\" alt=\"My Version of the hood\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What I didn&#8217;t like about the hood was that it was very airy,and for a Wisconsin winter, that just won&#8217;t work.\u00a0 I also thought the boucl\u00e9 yarn was just not right for this design.\u00a0 So I left its improvement on the back burner while I worked on my next project: The Garter Stitch Loop-Through Scarf by Marci Richardson in the book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/101-Designer-One-Skein-Wonders-possibilities\/dp\/1580176887\">101 Designer One-Skein Wonders<\/a>.\u00a0 I loved the way this turned out, despite my beginner&#8217;s mistakes.\u00a0 It was thick, warm, stretchy, and pretty in a simple way.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scarf.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-121\" title=\"Scarf\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.jen.jllocke.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scarf-150x150.jpg?resize=150%2C150\" alt=\"Scarf\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So when I finished, I knew that was how I wanted to modify the Golden Compass Hood.\u00a0 Now, I am working on a modification of the hood that incorporates the same yarn as the scarf, the same size needles as the scarf, and the same decorative edging as the scarf.\u00a0 I am also including a cord or ribbon around the bottom edge to make it tie a little more like a child&#8217;s bonnet.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to see how it turns out.\u00a0 Now I only hope I finish before the cold weather is gone.\u00a0 But if I don&#8217;t, there&#8217;s always next winter!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since the last post, I believe it&#8217;s been cold nearly every day.\u00a0 There were no tornadoes in Wisconsin this January, thankfully.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve learned to knit.
