Afraid of Losing It?

I lose things sometimes.  Not as much as I used to, but sometimes I do.  I’m sure you do, too.  But if you lose an electronic device (such as a notebook computer, MP3 player, cell phone, Palm Pilot, etc.) it may have some capabilities of notifying you of its location.

Lost?  Check out this article or try to catch the rerun of Dateline on the topic.  It seems our devices are even smarter than we originally thought.

Or maybe you don’t have an iPod and you just want to keep track of your laptop.  Try LocatePC by Iconico, Inc.  If your PC is stolen (or lost, I assume), it will send you a confidential email when it is next connected to the Internet.

Or maybe this is all a little too high-tech?  Then try UnloseIt where you can buy tags for $4.95 to place on your gadgets (or keys, if you’re prone to losing those) and you can connect with your items through the website after they are lost or stolen.

These are some great ideas.  Know of any other solutions for lost/stolen stuff?  Leave a comment!

  1. Hi,

You may want to check out the GadgetTrak software ( http://www.gadgettrak.com ) that was mentioned on the Dateline special. They have software that you install on your iPod that helps track it down in case it is stolen.

  2. None of them have tracking software. Just a place to register your device. I would suggest TrackItBack if you just want a lost/found service, but if you want to be more aggressive and have your iPod phone home look at GadgetTrak.

  3. Good suggestions, Ken. Thanks for the input!
