Review: Dark Eden

Dark Eden
Dark Eden by Patrick Carman

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The story was good and I enjoyed the main character. The writing was a bit simple, but I understand to expect that from some YA books.

The best part of all is the reference to some classic works of literature that might help kids who only like newer books or don’t like to read much at all get interested in reading. He references The Pearl by John Steinbeck and The Woman in the Dunes by Kōbō Abe. At the end the main character thinks about these books in a critical way relating the themes to those going on in the story. It seems to be a good introduction to this kind of thinking for younger kids.
