MTV VMA’s

What’s going on at MTV?

Where did all the rock go (sung to the melody of “Where do broken hearts go”). Seriously, the entire first half (at least) of the VMA’s was all pop, hip-hop, rap, dance, etc. Thankfully, they at least had a rock house band.

I know music has always been all about sex and everything, but since when do the cameras at award shows pan up and down women’s bodies and linger on specific sexual body parts? We don’t need more shit to make women more sexualized. There’s enough objectification of women already and we don’t need to promote that more.

The annoying beat that played after each person was announced drove me crazy. That’s all I have on that topic.

The show was grossly disorganized. Jack Black was alright – I expected more from him. But the show was so disorganized it went over by a half hour. It felt like a train wreck. So frustrating to watch.

The only thing they had going for them this year was that they had Al Gore on and allowed him to present a small section of his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. Oh, and the Raconteurs bringing Lou Reed up, and the guy from ZZ Top. That rocked.

And where the hell did Axle Rose come from? And how pompous to say “I wasn’t going to come but . . . “

The My Chemical Romance song debuted at the pre-show was okay. It showed that they really admire both Queen and Green Day, but they just don’t seem to be good enough to compete at that level.

There was one totally unfair oversight: The Red Hot Chili Peppers got zero awards for Dani California. Have you seen that video? It’s like a trip through rock history in just a few minutes. It definitely deserved something.
